A sect difference in his birth star
Shatabhisha in the Shvetambara line, Vishakha in the Digambara. Both readings are old and internally consistent. We show both and crown neither.

Months are given in the purnimanta convention, the one Hemachandra uses. For a Krishna-paksha date the Gujarati amanta name is one month earlier; Shukla dates are the same in both.
Note the pattern: his first four kalyanakas all fall in Shatabhisha, and only the nirvana shifts, to Uttara Bhadrapada. This holds across the tradition, and we map it in full on the kalyanaka calendar.
The Tirthankara Who Never Ruled
Vasupujya is the great outlier of the twenty-four, and Hemachandra says so explicitly.
He never married and he never reigned. The text has him refuse his father’s plea to take the throne, and then contrasts him with the others in a single pointed line: “others, from Ajita to Shreyamsa, married … and supported the earth.” Every other Tirthankara of that stretch lived the householder’s life first and renounced afterward. Vasupujya simply declined.
The difference runs through every detail of his record. His retinue at renunciation is 600, not the customary thousand. His fasts are one day, not two. His diksha and omniscience happen at Viharagriha, not the Sahasramravana grove where almost everyone else’s occur. And his nirvana is at Champa, his birthplace, making him one of only four Tirthankaras not liberated at Shikharji.
For a tradition that venerates the householder path as much as the ascetic one, Vasupujya stands as the reminder that the sequence was never compulsory.
